Get a handle on the size of this space

The transition from place to place

Move over that map. Those roads

Like the veins of this beautiful body of country

Roll over and fold up in and out of other

Landscapes.

Place your index finger where you start

And stretch out your thumb to touch

All the innumerable unnamed places

You’ve yet to see

See how small your hand is

Then cover Hawaii with your pinky

And think of all those lives there

That you can blot out with your

Tiniest digit

Isn’t it remarkable that you can travel

That your body can move the map

That all those flat counter tops

Can cover the relief of mountains and valleys

In a day you can move yourself

To a place with a different climate

While in a day your body can move over mountains

In a moment your mind can imagine it

In the time it takes you to breathe out

You can internalize the map of this country

And be every where
